Appointments

Our aim is that all patients will be seen by a primary care professional within 24 hours (by the end of the following normal working day not including Saturday or Sunday), and a GP within two normal working days (not including Saturday or Sunday).

Patients are seen by appointment. A receptionist will help you make an appointment. Whenever possible please give as much notice as you can for routine, non-urgent appointments. These are frequently booked in advance and if you leave it until the last minute a routine appointment may not be available on the day you want it.

Urgent cases and sick children will always be seen as soon as possible.

We will try to keep appointment times as much as possible, but inevitably some patients require more time than others. If you are kept waiting, please be patient. On the next occasion it may be you who requires more of the doctor's time.

In order to keep the surgery running smoothly as possible, please remember the following:

  • Please be punctual for your appointment.

  • Please let us know if you cannot keep your appointment.

  • Please do not expect the doctor to “squeeze in” other members of your family at the same time as this results in less attention being given to each person.

Chawton House Surgery Appointments System

There are four types of appointment.

  1. ROUTINE
Most of our appointments are routine and can be booked up to 12 weeks in advance. The more notice you give, the more likely you are to get the time and date of your choice.

  2. SOON
A few appointments are allocated for more pressing medical problems and can be booked up to 3 days in advance.

  3. URGENT
These appointments cannot be booked in advance and are for urgent medical problems which cannot wait.

  4. TELEPHONE
If you would like to speak to your doctor on the telephone, simply contact the surgery to book a telephone appointment.

Our administrative staff try very hard to accommodate your needs, whilst also having to manage the GPs’ workload of paperwork, surgeries and home visits. They will do their best to book an appointment to suit you but would appreciate your understanding if this is not possible.

We hope this information will help you to arrange an appropriate appointment to suit your medical needs.
